The meeting in Zanesville was being held as early as 1821, when a travelling minister named Hugh Judge visited it. The MW was transferred from Plainfield MM to Stillwater MM on 2/23/1822.
The meeting house was constructed in Falls Township, Muskingum County, near the township's extreme southeastern corner (just west of Zanesville). The burial ground survives on the west side of Licking Road immediately south of the I-70 overpass.
The meeting at Zanesville broke up as a result of the Hicksite division and was laid down in 1828.
Stillwater MM later decided that it did not want to maintain oversight of distant members at Zanesville. It approached Stillwater QM on 2/27/1839, asking that Zanesville Friends be attached to Pennsville MM. The QM was not in unity with the request and did not approve it, so Zanesville Friends continued to hold their membership at Stillwater. |
