Stillwater QM was established in 1821 for Friends in southeastern Ohio. An important part of Stillwater QM since 1876 has been Olney Friends School, which has contributed to the health of Stillwater Meeting near Barnesville.
Stillwater QM was established with the MMs of Stillwater, Plainfield, and Somerset MM. As Friends settled further south in Morgan and Washington Counties, additional meetings were established that became Pennsville QM (1855-1926). The QM suffered from the Hicksite division in 1828 but was only minimally impacted by the 1854 Gurneyite division. The early meetings in Iowa were nurtured by meetings in Stillwater QM in the 1860s.
After Plainfield MM was laid down in 1865, Stillwater QM had only two MMs, Stillwater and Somerset. Finally in 1919, Fairhope MM in Alabama joined Stillwater QM, followed by the return of Chesterfield MM in 1926. After Fairhope MM withdrew from the QM in 1967, another new meeting joined from another state - Rockingham MM in Virginia. Ongoing labors resulted in the expansion of Stillwater QM into other states with the admission of Keystone Fellowship MM in 2006, Crossroads MM in 2009, and Chattahoochee MM in 2011. Ohio YM reconfigured the QMs in 2012, after which Stillwater QM has consisted of Stillwater, Chestnut Ridge, and Chesterfield MMs.
