William Heald was a leading Ohio Friend of the first two thirds of the 19th century and a surveyor who completed many of the first surveys in northeastern Ohio.
Heald reported on the 1850 census that he was born in Virginia. His mother Rebecca and siblings were received into membership at Hopewell in 1785. They were already living in the Westland area at that time. William Heald's father Nathan Heald was listed in the 1790 census as living in Washington County, Pa. It is not clear if Nathan Heald was ever a member.
Heald lived his last years in Iowa, though his membership was still at Middleton. He lived to the remarkable age of 101 years.
