John C. Hill was one of the founding Gurneyites in eastern Ohio. Son of John & Mary Hill, he served in the US Army during the War of 1812. The minutes for Short Creek MM are missing at the time he moved to that MM. In 1835, Hill served on the committee to initiate disownment proceedings against Elisha Bates (Elisha Bates, An Examination of Certain Proceedings and Principles of the Society of Friends called Quakers, page 135). Hill was later an advocate of the doctrines of J.J. Gurney.
