The first Westland Meeting House was constructed c. 1782 and burned down in 1785.
The date of construction is deduced. The meeting house had not been constructed as of 11/5/1781, when a full report of activity at Westland was reported at Hopewell MM. Warrington & Fairfax QM listed a new MH at Westland on 9/16/1782, which leaves a time window of 10 months for the construction.
The location of the meeting house is not known. The second meeting house stood on a piece of ground that was initially surveyed in 1790, and it seems very unlikely that a meeting house would have been constructed on un-surveyed land with no warrant or patent. The building likely stood closer to the Monongahela River than the second Westland FMH.
The appearance of this first Westland MH is not known. It burned in the summer of 1785; the fire was reported at Warrington QM on 9/19/1785. |
