The first Sewickley Meeting House was used from 1805 to 1845, when it was rebuilt.
The meeting at Sewickley was first held in the house of James McGrew (1789-1805). A marriage took place there in 1796, and the first burial in 1797. In early 1805, McGrew had a tract of seven acres surveyed for a meeting house and burial ground; in his will, written a few days later, he left this land to Sewickley Meeting.
The meeting house was built on the property soon after the will was written. The appearance of the building is not known. It was removed in 1845 for the second Sewickley MH. |
