The Primitive Friends were a traditional group of Quakers who sought to maintain the general heritage of Quakerism. The group coalesced in 1854 when Wilburite groups nationwide were not recognized by Ohio YM. Thereafter, several Wilburite bodies experienced what was called the Otis-King division, in which Friends who sought recognition from Ohio YM became Kingites while those who sought to be part of the organized Primitive world were Otisites. By the mid-1870s, Ohio Wilburites were making contacts with all Primitive groups, although fellowship was never restored. |
