Friends on Mahoning requested an indulged meeting at Salem MM on 9/15/1807. A committee was appointed to visit them; it reported back on 10/13/1807 that "there was not that weight that is requisite for holding a public meeting for worship at present" so the requested was not granted. The request was renewed on 6/14/1808 and was granted on 7/12/1808. The meeting was first held on 7/17/1808. Although the MM named the meeting Mahoning, it was referred to as Lexington at Salem MM on 7/12/1808 in a later minute. The two names were used interchangeably during the next few months, but the name Lexington eventually was chosen. |
