History The first half of French's term was occupied by the continuing attempt to resolve differences at Hickory Grove. Membership on the committee was adjusted in 1885, and the new committee visited Iowa Friends in 1886 and 1887. With no resolution in sight, the select YM simply released the committee in 1887.
Reading of certificates from Friends travelling in ministry continued. The first minute he read was for Lydia Stover, a female minister from Canada. This was the first time since 1854 that a travelling minute from a YM other than Philadelphia YM was read at Ohio YM. Half of the remaining 14 certificates read (1887-1891) were from Philadelphia, and the others from Canada, Iowa, Western, and Kansas YMs.
French had been appointed to serve as Clerk during the opening of the 1892 YM but was unable to attend. |
