Darlene (Cope) Osborn Rushby was an Elder at Rockingham MM. She was born across the lawn from the Paullina Meeting House in Iowa; her family had been members of the former Kansas YM. Her parents, Darlington & Elba (Hinshaw) Cope, instilled in her an appreciation of traditional Quakerism. Her first husband died, leaving her with minor children. She moved to Harrisonburg, Va. in the early years of that meeting and remarried.
Darlene served as an Elder for many years. A notable event took place during a Gathering of Conservative Friends in the 1990s when she stepped down from the facing bench to speak quietly with someone who had interrupted the worship.
Darlene's burial took place at the McDowell Mennonite Church Cemetery in rural Monterey, Virginia. |
