Mary (Raley) Stratton was a Quaker schoolteacher and the second wife of Edward Stratton. She was the eldest of five daughters of Asa and Asenath Raley, who lived near the Concord Friends Meeting House.
Mary Raley worked for many years as a teacher in Friends schools. She attended the Concord Friends Primary School herself. She then taught at the Mount Pleasant Boarding School and then for the Friends select school in Germantown, Pennsylvania.
Mary Raley married Edward Stratton at Concord in 1871. They continued to live on Stratton's farm near the Carmel Meeting House for two years. They relocated to Salem in 1873. Edward and Mary had three sons and adopted a son and a daughter.
Mary R. Stratton died in her home at 104 East Seventh Street, Salem in 1916 (Salem News, 9/14/1916).
