Joanna S. Dutton was a daughter of Richard & Joanna Alter. She married (1) Joseph Smith c. 1800; he died prior to 1818 and was not a member. She joined Friends at Carmel in 1818 and then married (2) Joseph Dutton in 1827. She joined the Hicksites in 1828.
