Marlborough Meeting was opened in 1811. Lexington PM reported to Salem MM on 7/16/1811 that "the upper settlement of Friends request the priviledge of holding a meeting for worship." The meeting was granted on 8/13/1811, to be opened the following First Day. The meeting was called the Upper Settlement Meeting until 1813. A minute of Salem MM on 3/16/1813 referred to the "Upper Settlement of Lexington 'called marlborough'."
The first Marlborough meeting house was built circa 1811. A new meeting
house was built in 1819; it was a hewn log building measuring 12x24 feet.
The Orthodox Friends built a new meeting house in the northwest corner of
the meeting lot in 1840, and this meeting house was used until 1895. |
